What impact did rowing have on your Dartmouth experience?

I cannot overstate the impact that learning to row with my freshman eight and subsequent competing on varsity crew for three years had on me. The esprit de corps, mutual commitment of eight crew mates, living “one for all” and collective exploration of endurance and pain was unrivaled. Quite simply, rowing was Dartmouth for me.

What impact did rowing have beyond college?

Dartmouth rowing had a profound impact on my career as the ultimate form of team work. To this day I believe in servant leadership and it has served me well. Secondly, rowing taught me endurance and persistence unlike any other experience at Dartmouth. I went on to Stanford for two graduate degrees thanks the discipline learned through rowing.

What would be lost if Dartmouth eliminates the Lightweight Rowing Team?

A long time Dartmouth institution that has trained thousands, yes thousands, of amateur athletes to become exquisitely capable team players. It will break my heart and love of Dartmouth to see this program end. We cannot watch this decimation of an institution.
