Did you walk on to the lightweight rowing team?

No

What impact did rowing have on your Dartmouth experience?

The team was my family and the boathouse was my home. I felt safe, happy, and productive whenever I was there. Rowing added balance to my academic pursuits in engineering that couldn’t be matched with any other extracurricular. The physical exercise and mental respite that rowing provided on the beautiful Connecticut river was something I wished every student could experience.

What impact did rowing have beyond college?

Nearly every lesson that I learned from rowing, including grit, teamwork, and humility, have ingrained themselves into my core ethos. My unique experiences as a rower at Dartmouth and on the National Team as well as my work ethic reinforced by those experiences were key contributors to post-rowing success, most notably in working as lead software engineer at a medical device startup in SF and acceptance to medical school in New York City.

What would be lost if Dartmouth eliminates the Lightweight Rowing Team?

We would lose development of life-long skills, friends, and passion for working hard towards a shared goal. Trust in the administration would also be lost from the lack of transparency in this process and issues with the “facts” presented as the reasoning for the removal of the sport.
